Frequently Asked

Questions

Whether you’re saddling up for a trail ride, settling in for a prairie overnight, or just curious about how things work around here, you’ll find helpful answers below. If something’s still unclear, don’t hesitate to give us a shout — we’re always happy to help.

Riding Adventures

Not at all. Our adventures are designed for all levels, from first-timers to seasoned riders. Every guest receives a riding orientation and safety briefing, and our experienced guides are there every step of the way to help you feel confident and connected with your horse.

We keep our groups small and personal. Each time slot is capped at 6 riders to ensure a safe, intimate experience. If you’re riding solo, you’re absolutely welcome — we often match guests together unless a private group books the full slot.

We recommend long pants and closed-toe shoes — boots with a small heel are ideal for stirrups, but not required. Dress in layers so you’re comfortable as the weather changes, and bring a hat or sunglasses to help with the prairie sun. We ride in most weather conditions, so packing a rain jacket is always a smart idea.

Unless your group books all 6 spots, you may be riding alongside other guests. However, we keep the atmosphere warm and welcoming, and there’s always space for everyone to ride comfortably. If you’re looking for a private experience, feel free to contact us — we’ll do our best to accommodate.

Accommodations

The Sky HI Sun & Stars Overnight Adventure offers more than just a place to sleep. It’s a full prairie experience: evening and morning horseback rides, a rustic bunkhouse stay under the stars, a hearty ranch-style breakfast, access to our stargazing platform, and dessert and sweet tea by the fire. It’s a step into cowboy life, with a touch of magic.

Each bunkhouse sleeps four, with a queen bed and either bunks or a daybed/trundle combo. Linens, towels, and a wash basin are provided. You’ll have a private outhouse and a camp-style shower with a pump system. Each unit has a generator for power and comes with a picnic table, camp grill access, and shelter from the wind and sun. No running water, no Wi-Fi — just the stars, the breeze, and a quiet place to rest.

Not yet. RV and tent sites must be reserved by phone or email, as space is limited and access depends on conditions. These sites are nestled in the trees and have access to picnic tables, hitching posts, and corrals.

Each bunkhouse has its own rustic outhouse and a private camp shower setup — a large pail with a pump that provides a surprisingly comfortable rinse. It’s all simple and thoughtfully maintained to give you a cozy back-to-basics experience.

Stargazing & Nightlife

Yes – if you’re staying overnight in a bunkhouse or campsite, you’re welcome to use the stargazing platform. It’s one of our favorite features and open to all overnight guests.

We don’t currently offer telescopes, but you’re welcome to bring your own, along with binoculars or even a comfy lawn chair. The skies here are wide open, and you’ll see more stars than you ever imagined — no fancy equipment required.

The platform is a shared space for guests, and we ask everyone to keep noise and lights to a minimum after dark. It’s a place to reflect, relax, and take in the sky together in peaceful stillness.

On-Site Etiquette & Safety

No open fires are permitted on the property due to safety and fire risk. We do have a BBQ and camp grill available in our covered cook shelter for guests to use — a great place to share a meal and good conversation.

Quiet hours begin at 10:00 PM. It’s a time to wind down, let the prairie night settle in, and enjoy the stillness of the landscape — whether you’re stargazing or tucked into your bunkhouse.

We ask that guests do not use drones on-site. We want to maintain a peaceful environment for our guests and for the wildlife and livestock that roam freely.

Yes. Cattle roam at large in this area – please give them space and always close gates as you found them. Only interact with Heritage horses under the supervision of a guide. Safety is a top priority here, and our rules are in place to protect both guests and animals.

Booking & Payments

Most riding adventures and overnight packages can be booked directly online. If you’d like to stay in an RV or tent site, or if you need something custom (like extra cots), please call or email us directly.

Online bookings must be made at least 24 hours in advance. If you’re hoping for something sooner, give us a call — we may be able to squeeze you in, depending on the day.

Yes, all bookings are paid in full at the time of reservation to confirm your spot.

Absolutely – you can book for a group and pay for everyone in one transaction.

Life happens — we get it. Cancellations made at least 2 weeks hours before your scheduled ride or stay will receive a full refund. Cancellations within 2 weeks are non-refundable, as we’ve reserved time, horses, and accommodations specifically for you.

Absolutely. If you need to change your date, we’re happy to help — just contact us at least one week in advance and we’ll do our best to find a new time that works.

Rides run rain or shine, unless weather conditions are unsafe (e.g., lightning or impassable roads). If we must cancel due to severe weather, we’ll offer you a full refund or the option to reschedule.

No-shows are considered non-refundable. Please let us know if something comes up — we’d much rather hear from you and help reschedule than have an empty saddle.

Other Logistics

We’re located in a remote prairie area accessible by gravel and dirt roads. Please check your GPS in advance, and be mindful that roads can become impassable when wet. We’ll send detailed directions after booking.

You’ll have cell service, but there’s no Wi-Fi on-site. Most of our guests love this — it’s a chance to truly unplug, reconnect with the land, and enjoy some digital silence.
